It’s common knowledge that you can spend a fortune on baby toys, and the baby will be more interested in playing with the cardboard box the toy came in.
What I didn’t know when I became a mom was how much my kid would love my laundry basket. The basket gets more use than most of his toys.
We turned it upside down and he pushes it around the house like a walker.
That’s only where the fun begins though. It makes a great drum.
We’ve played airplane with it.
We’ve played train with it.
We’ve played house with it.
The problem comes when I actually need to use the laundry basket. The love of the laundry basket doesn’t stop when it’s empty. Oh no. It’s even more fun when it’s filled with clothes.
Then we get to play post office.
I hate laundry day.

Lucky for me that I bought a big wicker one
It’s from BB&B, and was only $20 or so this past summer. Check it out!

All the better to trap the child with? I approve!
Just kidding. We’ve actually had a lot of fun with our laundry basket, although it helps a lot that we have hardwood floors. Perfect for sliding.
I can remember playing zoo with 4 or 5 of these things.
The sweet days, the sweet photos.
Have a wonderful time!! This is a great age.
mama wants this sent me over…you have a very, very cute blog and style…very cute.
Thanks, Alexandra! I’m loving this age, it’s so innocent and everything is an adventure.
I pretty much just gave up doing laundry. We just buy more clothes when we run out. They’ve usually grown by then, anyway!!
LOL! I’m just wondering how to keep the fun of laundry going so when he’s old enough to do it by himself he’ll still find it fun! Yeah, yeah, I know. One can dream.
My 2 year old likes to pretend he is a turtle with the laundry basket as his shell. Of course, the problem comes when the 1 year old sees his opportunity and stands on top of it trapping his brother underneath!

I love it! See, laundry baskets, who knew? I don’t think it would have quite the same excitement factor if my son unwrapped a laundry basket for Christmas though.
Ha how fun. I had two grandkids piled in mine yesterday and I had to pry it from them to get the clothes out of the dryer. They took it back over after that.

Alison @ Mama Wants This was raving about your blog on Twitter, so I came to check it out. She was right, you’re a lot of fun. Love the drool on the laptop in the header!

Thanks Erica! The drool on the laptop is (unfortunately) a frequent occurrence in my house. My son seems to think shiny things are food and has knack for attacking my laptop as soon as I sit down to blog.
Would it distress you to know the fascination with the laundry basket & the laundry doesn’t end even at the age of 2?

Hehe, I’d better make sure I have a replica tucked away in case of inevitable breakage. Kids can smell a fake bait & switch a mile away.
Ah, I love this. So cute! I wish my kids did things other than have battles with fake light sabers and build complicated things out of Legos.
Thanks! I’m looking forward to the day my son is old enough to build things out of Lego. I used to be an avid lego builder, I could whip up a mean tower, or square house. If he starts playing, I get to have an excuse to join in
Yay! You’re back and I can read your posts again! You know this is so funny! My daughter loves our laundry basket, but the one we have is a collapsible mesh round basket that she puts on its side on the floor and rolls around in it with 2 or three of her stuffed animal friends… ahh the imaginations the little ones have!! Oh, by the way, thanks for the book recommendation, I will read that series as it looks really interesting!

Could you imagine what adults would be like if we had the imaginations of children? We’d probably get nothing accomplished in our day-to-day lives, especially if we had to stop and frolic in a laundry basket. Talk about the ultimate time waster…
You have such fun at your house! What wonderful ways to plays!
Your star sounds perfect!
